Below is the basic process to follow when you want to get a passport for kids. As the parent, it will be your legal responsibility to see this process is followed correctly.
Minor Documents
In this context, a child is anyone under the age of sixteen years old. Even if your child already has one, these are the rules to follow if it will expire before your child reaches sixteen years old. The requirements have gotten increasingly detailed over the years as the federal government tries to minimize the risk of child trafficking.
Country of Origin
Your first step will be to get documentation that your child is indeed a US citizen. If you have a certified copy of your child’s long form birth certificate,this will do.
