Finest Areas For Black Marlin Charters

Posted by myjiemeng - January 28th, 2012

The prized game fish, Makaira Indica, or the Black Marlin, dwells in the Indo-Pacific Oceans in surface waters near the coast. It is one of the fastest-moving fish on earth (50 miles per hour) and comes from the Order, Perciformes. The average weight of M. Indica that are routinely caught on Black Marlin Charters is around three quarters of a metric ton (750 kilograms) or roughly 1700 pounds. Heftier specimens have been reported.

Makaira

As with other genera of Order Perciformes, Makaira appears on the Greenpeace seafood red list. This list documents species that have a high likelihood of being harvested from supplies that are unsustainable. This is why the modern sport fisherman will pause only to photograph their prize and then return it to the sea from whence it emerged. Other species in the same family, Istiophoridae, include the Japanese White Marlin as well as the Hawaiian Silver Marlin.

Old Salt

In the novel, ‘The Old Man and the Sea’, written by Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961), old salt, Santiago, finally manages to break a 12-week dry spell by hooking a member of Makaira. The rest of the novel goes on to describe the hero’s legendary battle against the combined forces of the fierce, resolute beast and Mother Nature.

Color

Despite its descriptive name, M. Indica is not actually black but white and deep blue. It’s tail fins and inflexible pectoral fins, however, are black. Its cross section is more oval than round, unlike its blue cousin, and its ventral fins are rarely longer than 12 inches, no matter how big the fish itself is. It likes warm tropical and subtropical waters near coastland. Occasionally it makes an appearance as far south as Brazil and as far north as the Lesser Antilles.

Eastern Coast Of Australia

Some of the best charter fishing tours for M. Indica originate off the eastern coast of Australia. Nearly three quarters of all marlin of more than one ton in weight are caught over a 150 mile-long stretch of the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Cairns. This is roughly twice the amount caught around Brazil, Portugal and Hawaii combined.

Game Fish

The Gold Coast at Brisbane is a very popular gathering place for light tackle enthusiasts seeking Makaira and other game fish. Here they can trawl for Spanish Mackerel, Mia, Wahoo and others. Bottom fishers, otherwise known as ‘jiggers’, come here to find Kingfish, Cobia, Peal Perch and Snapper.

Port Stephens

Port Stephens is more than twice the size of Sydney Harbor. With its beautiful scenery, glassy clear waters and golden shoreline, it is a world-class focus for Black Marlin Fishing. Tours from this area depart during the month of January through April.

Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuits Notice

Posted by myjiemeng - January 28th, 2012

Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuits : The incidence of bladder cancer has risen over the past 20 years. Currently, around 54 500 new cases of bladder cancer are diagnosed in the USA each year, and 15 000 cases in the UK. Bladder cancer is the fourth most common cancer in men in the USA and the tenth most common in women. It is one of the most frequent causes of cancer death, accounting for about 10 000 deaths annually in the USA and 5000 in the UK.

More information on Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuits

The incidence of bladder cancer varies among different patient groups. For example, there is a 3:1 male-to-female ratio, though the prevalence among women appears to be rising.

The incidence is higher in elderly populations, with a median age at presentation of 60-65 years. No evidence exists for a familial or inherited pattern among any patient group, although occasional family clusters have been recorded. In black people the incidence is lower than in white people; in Asian races it appears to be intermediate. The lifetime risk of developing bladder cancer is:

  • 2.8% for white men
  • 0.9% for black men
  • 1.0% for white women
  • 0.6% for black women.

Information from other sources on Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuits

Five-year survival for both black and white people during the period 1986-92 (60% and 82%, respectively) was significantly better than the equivalent rates for 1974-76 (47% and 74%, respectively; p < 0.05). It is not really known why there are substantial ethnic differences in incidence and prognosis, although putative factors include differences in diet and nutritional status, differences in gene expression (especially of enzymes that may metabolize carcinogens) and differential access to healthcare.

Discover How to Use Amazon S3 As a Remote Storage, Backup Drive Or File Sharing Server

Posted by myjiemeng - January 26th, 2012

The Amazon S3 storage device is great for a number of reasons. It is flexible–you can use it as a remote storage device or a backup server, and it is perfect for large media files, housing business files, and storing personal files. But guess what else? It is cheap.

SIMPLICITY ITSELF

“S3″ stands for Simple Storage Service, and simple it is. This very user friendly web services interface can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data at any time, from any Web location. It gives any developer access to the highly scalable, reliable, fast, and inexpensive data storage infrastructure that Amazon.com uses to for running its global network of websites. S3 was developed with the objective of maximizing benefits of scale and passing those benefits on to developers.

You can have the Amazon S3 up and running on your computer in about 15 minutes. You just hop online and take a few minutes to create a free Amazon S3 account. Next, you download and configure Jungle Disk. Lastly, you download and configure Net Drive. With this, you will create a “New Site” and set the Site Address/URL to: [http://localhost:2667/] (or the value configured in Jungle Disk). Then set the Server Type as “WebDav”. Choose a drive letter for accessing your new remote storage–and you are set up.

Amazon S3 allows you to write, read, and delete objects containing anywhere from 1 byte to 5 GB of data each, with the number of possible stored items unlimited and with each item stored in a bucket in either the United States or Europe and retrieved by a unique, developer-assigned key. Any of your items can be made public, private, or shared with only specified users. In addition, standards-based REST and SOAP interfaces that work with any Internet-development toolkit are built in. Amazon S3 is compatible with any platform that can run Firefox, which includes Mac.

Just think what this might mean for you if you want to do away with limits on your storage capacity on a portable music player device, be able to get your music no matter where on the planet you are, and get it with direct access to download to your laptop. Store all of your music on Amazon S3 and your troubles are over.

COUNTING THE COST

What is really exciting is, you only pay for what you use. There is no minimum fee, and there is no start-up fee. Amazon’s fee scale lists like this for the United States:

STORAGE

.15 per GB-Month of storage used

DATA TRANSFER

.100 per GB – all data transfer in

.170 per GB – first 10 TB / month data transfer out

.130 per GB – next 40 TB / month data transfer out

.110 per GB – next 100 TB / month data transfer out

.100 per GB – data transfer out / month over 150 TB

If you’ve got a ton of data in storage and you’re using external hard drives and RAID configurations, and you plan to keep on using that kind of backup and storage, calculate your server costs, disk costs, hard drive upgrade costs, and let’s not forget your electricity costs, along with the non-financial costs such as Amazon’s speed and availability, and you’ll likely find the Amazon S3 to be a money saver for you.

COMPARE AND CONTRAST

How does Amazon S3 compare to other popular personal tools? If you got Jungle Disk alone, the one-time cost would be , you are limited to Mac, Windows, or Linux, and it acts like a mountable disk drive for ease of upload and download rather than giving you bazoonga storage and backup power. You can get Transmit 3.6 for your Mac with its OS X system for about 30 bucks. This is easy to use and allows you to copy files between your local system and any system that you can reach on your network, and it can support S3. There is also an S3 Beta out there that you can get free-for now (it will expire) and it works only with a Windows operating system. It is a user-friendly upload and download utility with an interface that operates a lot like any other FTP software (like the Transmit 3.6).

For your storage, security, and remote accessibility needs, Amazon’s S3 is probably the most cost effective and comprehensive solution to be found.

How to edit your Hosts file to bypass Apple’s signature server

If you have an iPhone 3G you should be able to downgrade to 3.1.2 by downloading or finding your 3.1.2 firmware. Open iTunes and hold down “Shift” and click on Restore (if your on a mac it’s “Option” then Restore) and select your old firmware. If you have an iPhone 3GS its a little more trickier then that and would only work if you had your SHSH backed up via Cydia. You will need to edit your hosts file located here – C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (Windows) or /etc/hosts (Mac OS X) and add 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com to the bottom. Now, when iTunes thinks it is talking to Apple, it is talking to Cydia instead. Doing this will allow iTunes to access signatures already stored by Cydia’s “on file” feature… Full post at www.iphone-enthusiast.com

SCALE 10x: Wrap Up!

Posted by myjiemeng - January 26th, 2012

I am officially back from SCALE 10x (Southern California Linux Expo), and I have a few photos and experiences to share with everyone. We (myself and a few co-workers) arrived on Thursday (Jan 19th) at the Hilton LAX in Los Angeles. We spent most of Friday in PostgreSQL training (unrelated to OpenShot, but really awesome). Andy Finch arrived Friday afternoon (from London), and we finally got to meet in person, for the first time. Andy is a great guy, and it was awesome to hang out with him and talk OpenShot! We spent the rest of Friday setting up our booth, and enjoyed a few beers (that got expensive quick)!

On Saturday (Jan 21st), the expo floor opened at 10 AM, and we got to work. Andy and I worked the booth and got to meet tons of OpenShot fans, introduced it to some people that had never heard of it, and met a few Hollywood post-production professionals (which was really cool). At 3 PM, I made my way into the largest room at SCALE (the la Jolla room), and setup for my presentation, “Create Stunning Videos with OpenShot!” The presentation was streamed live, but apparently we overloaded the servers, and the stream buffered continuously… so most people were not able to watch the entire presentation. Hopefully, I’ll be able to edit a full version, with all my tutorial videos included, and make that available on YouTube soon. After the presentation, I was interviewed (and recorded) by Suite 500 Inc, which was a first for me =). Later on, at 6 PM, I gave my 2nd presentation to “The Next Generation”, a youth conference that SCALE was also running. This presentation was targeted at kids, and was much shorter.

On Saturday night, we attended “Game Night” at SCALE, enjoyed some android cookies and ice cream sandwiches (from Google), the history of Nintendo (which was very cool), and even played some air hockey. There was also a full size laser tag arena, but I did not want to crawl around shooting people after the long day.

On Sunday (Jan 22nd), we once again worked the booth, met lots of nice people, and towards the end of the day left for the airport. Andy flew back to London, and we flew back to Dallas, Texas. We all had a great time, successfully promoted OpenShot at the largest Linux expo in the United States, and were happy to spend our free time promoting and supporting the larger open-source community!

The following photos were mostly taken with cell phones… so… keep your expectations low with respect to quality. =)
